Jesus wants us to evaluate both sides of the spiritual ledger and "count the cost" of the commitment necessary to follow him and the loss suffered if we refuse to follow him. In this lesson, we consider 7 things that we all should evaluate and calculate the value of. Our eternity is at stake!

After God created the world, he rested, indicating that beyond our life in this world, we can look forward to resting with God in heaven. The ancient Israelites rejected that rest, and God swore in his wrath that they would not enter it. Yet he had made it clear that some people would enter it. So a rest remains for the people of God.

In this lesson or discussion, I have asked my wife to join me as we talk about the way in which the Bible values children, something sorely lacking in many parts of the world including our own country. What kind of an example are you to your sons and daughters? These little ones are precious in God's sight and should be in our sight as well as their parents.

The scope of this lesson: we consider three different schools of thought on baptism: Protestant evangelicals; the Roman Catholic Church; and Paul the apostle. Is baptism an essential part of our salvation? There are a few different views and opinions regarding this question, but then there is the truth!

The Bible once held a prominent place in almost every household. Parents studied it and children learned from its stories of David, Samson, Daniel, and many others. But things are quite different today, as the Bible no longer holds the special place it once did. However, even with this negative trend I still believe in the Bible and you should too.

Some say that a mind change is all God’s grace requires for repentance. We are not required to change our lives. We don't need to turn from sin. That is wrong. Several things go along with true repentance, and it cannot do without them. What does God's grace require of the penitent heart?

 

Is death the end of a person, or is there hope that death is temporary, and the dead shall be resurrected (raised from death) to everlasting life?

When Jesus was preaching, he asked this revealing question of his audience: "Why do you call me Lord, Lord, yet don't do what I say?" (Luke 6:46). There were people in Christ's time as there are in our time who paid “lip service” to Jesus but do not obey him.
